Safeguarding Our Land

How do we feel about today’s pitch by Robert Irving, president of Cavendish Farms, in which he warned a legislative committee about “significant threats to the long-term sustainability of potato farming on Prince Edward Island” — while asking government to double land ownership limits imposed on Island potato farmers. He also spoke of “near drought” conditions, and alluded vaguely to “talks with the government trying to find ways to make sure we can have a collaborative plan to manage the water use.” What might he be really saying about the Province’s moratorium on new high-capacity wells for irrigation?
