New Democrats remind Islanders about What’s at Risk in this election

CHARLOTTETOWN — Last night’s debate showed that the only party who will fight to protect our public health care and increase the number of doctors and other health care professionals immediately is the New Democratic Party.

Throughout the election campaign, the Conservatives, Liberals and Greens have endorsed a shift to for-profit virtual care – making billionaires like Galen Weston even richer and last night during the debate those parties double-downed. None of these parties has committed to building a single long-term care bed. And only New Democrats have given their word to keep rural hospitals open.

“The choice for voters is crystal clear,” said NDP Candidate Joe Byrne. “Health care on our Island is at risk of privatization. New Democrats are the only ones ready to stand up and defend the frontline workers and services our communities need.”

New Democrats also announced today that we will introduce legislation to remove barriers for entry of doctors and other health care professionals from different countries, starting with countries in the Commonwealth and people who are from Canada but have studied in the United States or the Commonwealth.

“Together, we can make practical changes that make life better for everyone, no matter where you live,” says Byrne.
