New Democrats Only Party Who Will Fight To Fix Our Public Health Care System

“Having grown up and lived my entire life in PEI, and raised my own family here, I know that Islanders cherish our health care system and its workers. Islanders want well-funded and supported health services that are vital to our communities,” says
Neill. “People want their Emergency Rooms and rural hospitals to be open; they want to be able to get a prescription filled without jumping through hoops, and they want to be able to get their diagnostics in a timely manner.”

As noted in several news articles in recent weeks, the Island Physician registry has more than quadrupled in the last year. Doctors are leaving our province and the Conservatives did little to nothing to fix it.

“Too many people on PEI can’t get a doctor,” says Neill. “They wait months or years on the physician registry, resorting to seeking care in overcrowded and frequently closed ERs, or some even end up paying for the services and that’s wrong.”

“Our healthcare is under threat of being sold off to for-profit companies; we’re seeing that in other provinces where there are Conservative Premiers, like Nova Scotia, Ontario, Alberta, and Manitoba,” says Neill. “Nurses, doctors, and other health care professionals are chronically short staffed and they are burnt out.”

“New Democrats are the only party that will fight to ensure that our health care system remains public and universally accessible for Islanders,” says Neill. “And we will fight to ensure that all of the dollars from the federal government go towards
such a system.”

Michelle Neill and the Island New Democrats’ commitment to fix health care
include:

  • Ending the shortage of doctors, nurses, and health care workers.
  • Stopping ER and hospital closures.
  • Cutting ambulance wait times, especially in rural areas.
  • Improving senior care at home and creating new long-term care beds.
  • Providing timely and accessible mental health care to all Islanders.
  • Bringing down prescription costs by fighting for a national Pharmacare plan.
  • Stopping the privatization of our health care system.
  • ncreasing services and support for cancer patients.

“That’s my commitment to fix health care. And I know we can make this happen by
electing New Democrats on April 3rd,” says Neill.
