Michelle Neill and the Island New Democrats Will Fight for a Better Deal For All Islanders
Island New Democrat Party Leader, Michelle Neill, made the following statement on the news of an early election call by Dennis King:
“This is an unnecessary early election; the fixed election date of October 2nd, 2023, should have been respected,” says Neill. “There are so many issues facing every day Islanders that could have been dealt with between now and the fall. However, Dennis King decided to put his own political fortunes ahead of islanders’ needs.”
“We are seeing that life is getting harder for everyday Islanders. Our health care system is on the brink of collapse – hospitals are understaffed, Emergency Rooms (ERs) are closing regularly, and vital health services are at risk of being sold off to private companies,” says Neill. “The cost of living is growing far more rapidly than families’ paycheques, leaving many worried about paying for gas, food, and housing. People are worried about what’s next.”
“Let me be clear, we are in this mess in health care because of underfunding of our health care system under Conservative and Liberal party governments,” says Neill. Which has resulted in ER closures, hallway medicine, and unacceptable emergency and long-term care wait times.”
“There’s no doubt that people are tired of the government promising one thing during an election and doing the opposite afterwards. It’s time to stop that,” says Neill. “Islanders deserve a better deal, and New Democrats are prepared to deliver it. Together, we can make practical changes that make life better for everyone – no matter where you live on PEI.”
“New Democrats will fight to fix health care, make life more affordable and tackle the housing crisis. We’ll make sure that government works for all Islanders, making our province a more attractive place to live, work, and raise a family.
