A Better Deal to make life more affordable

CHARLOTTETOWN — As everyday living costs continue to skyrocket, New Democrats are offering a package of solutions to help Islanders make ends meet.
The NDP’s commitment includes a $17 minimum wage and a 10% increase to social assistance, measures that would give thousands of families a needed raise. New Democrats will also extend inflationary support to Islanders through 2025 and double the home heating benefit.
“Since the start of the pandemic, many companies have seen record profits,” said NDP leader Michelle Neill. “Unfortunately, most Islanders haven’t seen these profits reflected in their incomes. The Conservatives aren’t doing enough to help people who are struggling; it’s time for real investments to meet this crisis head-on.”
Last year, PEI had the country’s highest inflation rate and Canadians’ grocery bills rose by over 10%. More Islanders than ever are turning to food banks for relief.
New Democrats are prepared to make an immediate investment of $75 million to ease the impact of inflation. Below is a detailed summary of the Island New Democrats’ affordability commitments.
