Islanders Deserve a Better Deal

There’s one thing we know about 2023: Islanders will be given the opportunity to choose what our future will look like after the election this year. I’ve talked to people from one end of the province to the other and people are worried about the future.

From what we know right now; health care is on the brink of collapse, the cost to live in our province is beyond the means for many, people are being forced to live in tents, and the climate crisis is not taken seriously. These are not just problems that crept up on us; these are problems that have ballooned because of successive Conservative and Liberal party governments. Simply put, Islanders have been getting a raw deal for decades.

But I’m an internal optimist, and I know it doesn’t have to be this way.

My dad used to say to me “you can’t just complain, you have to get involved and make it better.” As someone who grew up in a rural community, I was taught how to be a hard worker, stand up for what I know is wrong, and more importantly, find a way to fix it.

Over the coming weeks, Islanders will hear more from me about the issues that you’re thinking about on a daily basis.

If we want different results, we have to make different choices. And I’m going to work beyond hard to show Islanders that New Democrats are the people who will fight for a better deal.
