A Better Deal for Islanders

2023-candidate-page-19

Carole MacFarlane Your Island New Democratic representative for District 19 - Borden - Kinkora

I moved from Montreal in 1990 for what I thought was 2 weeks holiday. Since, then married an islander (Peter MacFarlane), our two children, Ethan and Mary-Lynn, also gained an English son-in law plus a daughter in law and 3 beautiful grandchildren. Love pets (cats) and have had different kinds of pets when our children were growing up.

When my kids were in school, I was the President of the Home and School Association for Prince Street, Organized two successful fundraisers, Coach kids in bowling and lead one team win the provincial. I graduated with Legal Administration Assistant and help people access groups or contacts when they need help. As, a Cancer survivor, Health Care is very important to me.

I have heard so many stories about how the wait in the ER’s is terrible and too many stories that I hear or I have read on my Facebook and bias against aboriginal people. The Health system needs to be better. Because of the long wait in the ER some families have almost lost their loved ones.

Housing on the island is also is not low income. Low income means , even less then $1000 a month or even that. If people are earning only so much a hour and they have pay 1400, they will have a very hard time to live. Even in other provinces the rent is less then that for a 4 1/2.

We currently run a bicycle repair business in Kensington and promote active transportation. Climate change and Environmental improvement are high our list of priority.

My father in law was an original founder of CCF before they became the NDP.

Island New Democrat Party Leader, Michelle Neill, made the following statement on the news of an early election call by Dennis King: “This is an unnecessary early election; the fixed election date of October 2nd,...

Life is getting harder for everyday Islanders. Our health care system is on the brink – hospitals are understaffed and closing, and vital health services are at risk of being sold off to private companies. The cost of living is growing far more rapidly than families’ paycheques, leaving many worried about paying for gas, food and housing.

Things have gotten worse under Conservative and Liberal governments. Underfunding of our health care system has resulted in ER closures, hallway medicine, and unacceptable emergency and long-term care wait times. It’s not good enough for the government to stand by while Islanders are stressed about affording medical prescriptions and dental care.

People are tired of promising one thing during an election and doing the opposite after. It’s time to stop that.

If we want a future, we have to make different choices. Islanders deserve a better deal, and New Democrats are prepared to deliver it. Together, we can make practical changes that make life more affordable for everyone – no matter where you live.

New Democrats will fight for improved health care services and for us, cuts are not on the table. We’ll make sure that government works for all Islanders, making our province a more attractive place to live, work and raise a family.

When it comes to better jobs, protecting the environment and investing in strong public health care and education, New Democrats are fighting for you.
