REDMOND WILL REVERSE LIBERAL CUTS TO DAYCARE
MONTAGUE, PE – NDP Leader Mike Redmond announced today that he will reverse the Liberal cuts to subsidized daycare.
“We learned today that Liberal corruption was in part financed by their cuts to subsidized daycare for the Island’s kids,” said Redmond. “PEI families deserve better than having their services cut so that well-connected Liberals can pad their pockets.”
CBC reported today that spending by PEI Department of Community Services on childcare subsidies has been steadily declining. PEI Status of Women says many single moms who want to study post-secondary education are being turned down for subsidized childcare.
Under Liberals, $5M of the budget for PEI’s Department of Community Services were left unspent.
“PEI families have waited too long for quality, affordable childcare,” said Redmond. “I’m committed to working with Tom Mulcair and the federal NDP to ensure that Islanders have access to quality childcare for no more than $15 a day.”
