FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Charlottetown, PE (April 23, 2013) – Tyler Murnaghan, Interim Chair of the New Democratic Youth of PEI, believes the Liberal Party of PEI needs to apologize for blatantly ignoring the law by allowing minors to drink at their events.

Two Young Liberals told media that they were exposed to some uncomfortable situations of underage drinking while attending Liberal Party of PEI events. “At a time when drinking and other substance abuse are so rampant among our youth, where is the leadership from the Liberal Party in enforcing the law?” Murnaghan went on to state that all NDP PEI events where alcohol is served include responsible beverage service with ID required.

The NDP is asking for the Liberals to apologize for their lapse of judgement and implement policy to ensure that youth can safely attend their events. “This is blatant disregard for the law as well as just plain irresponsible,” stated NDP PEI Leader, Mike Redmond.

Despite requests to the Liberal Party President, the Executive Direction and the youth executive, The Liberal Party of PEI has refused to comment on this issue. “The Liberals must stand up, be accountable and commit to responsible service of alcohol at all future events,” concluded Murnaghan.
