Mike Redmond, Leader of the New Democratic Party of Prince Edward Island is calling on President of the PEI Teachers Federation Gilles Arsenault to push back against over 8 years of Liberal neglect and cuts to the education system on Prince Edward Island.

“It is completely unacceptable that under both the Ghiz and MacLauchlan government we now have lost 140 teachers”, stated Redmond. “It is time for the PEITF to stand up for teachers on PEI, and not to accept changes without consultations”, explained Redmond. During the election the NDP continually pointed out that we need teachers in the classroom, and the resources to make the teaching  profession optimal.”

On June 17, Redmond pointed out that the $500,000 cuts to education would result in the lose of teachers to the province.

“We have a Premier who is placing a higher priority on Wifi in schools, then having the appropriate compliment of teachers and resources in the classroom. He has not listened to the state of affairs of the teaching profession on the Island, class sizes are to large, kids are not getting the one on one resources required, and the mental health of teachers is at great risk”, stated Redmond
